• On paper, the build materials include hardened steel, aluminum. Now, we know stainless steel is a pretty tough material but at the same time heavier than other premium strong metals.
• On the other hand, aluminum might not be as tough, but it’s super light. AVAWO did a good job combining the two and coming up with a design that weighs around only 10 ounces. Pretty dope!
• In about 500 rounds of shots, we had to adjust the unit only once– that’s after around 400 rounds and not before! Considering the price, the result is pretty amazing.

Adjustability & spring quality

• The spring holds up well, it’s not too tight or too loose. You can’t hear a noise when making adjustments.

• When folded, the 6-inch legs blend into the rifle’s barrel. The adjustable height of the bipod, also enabled by internal springs, allows you to extend it up to 9 inches which is great.

• When it comes to making a bipod, strength and weight sound oxymoronic, leveling up of one would result in leveling up the other reducing the usability. So, manufacturers have to think hard to solve this puzzle.
• Magpul appeared to have solved this by using stainless steel internals while building the frame from 6061 machined aluminum. This method toughened the build, yet kept the weight in check.
• They’ve also used what they call, ‘reinforced high-strength polymer skin’ for weather protection and better gripping.
• I must agree that it’s built to last a lifetime and a big thumbs up to that!

Intelligent Design Allowing Versatility

• The knurled knob of the stand allows both rotation and tilt functionalities. It is able to perform up to 50° tilt and 40° of panning.

• It is as versatile as our previous 6-9 bipod models when it comes to flexibility.
• The design hides the spring and everything inside the polymer casing. That enhances both it’s aesthetics and ease of use. Besides, the hidden parts are also protected from dust and other corrosive materials.
• The legs are designed to snap into the right position when extended downward. You press the side button to lock them at an optimum height or move them backward.
• We tried the stands on different surfaces, including rocks, grassy top, sand and even on slippery stones. The gripping was okay on most surfaces except the wet mossy stones and that’s typical for most bipods.

Points of improvement

• It’s not a combat quality bipod, so, let’s manage our expectations a bit, but it is stout enough to be used for hunting and other shooting sessions on an everyday basis.
• We tried it for long range shooting using M24 SWS, just to see if it could hold up, but it didn’t go well, partly because it lacked the rock solid leg support that traditional fixed units offer. There’s scope for improving the stability when the legs are fully extended.
• You wouldn’t want to put a heavy rifle on it. It’s perfect for medium assault rifles.

How lightweight is it?

• XAegis 6″- 9″ model weighs no more than 13 ounces, when the size is considered, it is not lighter than its metallic counterparts to any significant amount. But the strength and durability it offers is greater, or at least, that’s what our test data suggest.
• We put the material to test to see if these were real carbon fiber or not. The fire and stress tests were conducted in our lab, the results were promising. You’d be glad to know it is genuine carbon fiber!

Comments on design & features

• At a first look the XAegis appears attractive, thanks to its carbon fiber texture. When you hold it, it feels premium but doesn’t supersede the Chinese models that we’ve already discussed.
• It comes with a Picatinny Adapter for your rifles Picatinny rail, super useful.

• The feets are spring loaded, you can adjust them using the notches, and these notches are secure, they are not going to wobble like the cheap models. The 5-point adjustability of legs makes it more versatile for different terrains.

• More than 500 rounds of shots were taken on this using a Savage Model 4 rifle. We didn’t notice any wobbling or squeaking issues, neither did we need to tighten it up or readjust it. Excellent performance!

Price justification

Since it’s a genuine carbon fiber bipod, it costs a few bucks extra. Compared to the price of CVLIFE 6-9 model, it is well justified. Besides, the look of the bipod is really dope!

What could be improved

Rock-solid construction

• Remember, they used neither carbon fiber nor aluminum in this piece, instead, they used hardened steel. Steel is highly durable that can take loads at a greater rate than aluminum does.
• Although steel makes it a bit heavier than its aluminum or carbon fiber counterparts, it’s not that much of a deal here, and you’d probably notice it unless you use a heavy gun.
• The rust-resistant anodized black finish will protect it from corrosion naturally caused by dust and rain.
• To save a few grams on the weight, they’ve drilled holes in it, that’s a smart idea.
• You can put a sniper rifle on this thing and still it wouldn’t shake.

What we liked about it

• Out of the box it’s fully ready to get mounted on a Picatinny rail (MIL-STD-1913) easy and quick. We loved its patented lever locking system for quick detachment. It’s fast and effective!

• The bipod has a double support bar installed for enhanced structural strength. Even if you load a heavy weapon on this thing, it will not make extra noise or show a sign of weakness.

• The versatile mounting options coming with the bipod keep it ahead of the game. On top of that, the installations for both the mounts are easy and time saving. It takes a little practice to master them though.

• If you are using a larger magazine, make sure you extend the legs to an optimum degree. You can put 30 rounds mag on the rifle, but that would only raise the height at a level that would be uncomfortable. We suggest you to use 10 rounds mag for optimum experience.
• We found it to be sturdy and solid. It doesn’t flex, there’s no play or whatsoever when shooting.
